POTTY POCKETS

I have seen other artists use toilet paper tubes so I decided to give it a try. I made one for each of my kids for Christmas and included a movie gift card inside. I used BoBunny paper on both of them. For my son's I trimmed with green velvet ribbon and for my daughter I trimmed with red velvet ribbon. The inside tag is made of gorgeous cardstock by Bazzil and I tied a wide ribbon on the end to pull it out with. I inked the edges of the toilet paper tube and the tag so the raw ends were covered. The kids thought I was brilliant and that was all that mattered to me. I keep a sack of toilet paper tubes now because they are quick to cover and decorate and the recipient thinks it's the next best thing to sliced bread.LOL.So , I want to see what you can do with a toilet paper tube and anything from your scrap stash. My daughter asked what I called it and being lightning fast with a comeback I blurted out POTTY POCKETS and we all had a good laugh but the name stuck. I love my little POTTY POCKETS.
You can see other pictures in my Facebook photo albums, go look. Send me a friend request , Cheryl Yelverton, and reference this blog post so I'll know to accept you. You can also visit my personal blog at http://www.mycraftivity.com/nayhddy .
Now let me see if I can get a couple of pictures on here... Thanks for visiting , ms.cheryl

Freebie

Free digital doodle download- Go HERE to get it. Scroll to the bottom and there it is! Great to have saved in case you ever need to print it out and use it!!!! Enjoy!

Just Say NO!

So, anyone who knows me knows that I have a need to visit one of our 4-5 craft/scrap stores at least twice a week if not more. Leave empty handed you say??? AS IF!!! (Okay, throwback to the movie Clueless :) So, in the ATTEMPT to use some of the great supplies I am sitting on like a mama hen, I am boycotting all craft stores from now until I have made SEVERAL ( I know, subjective, but it's a start) new items from the supplies I already have! I am only going to buy something new if a custom order I receive calls for something I do not have on hand or unless the sale ad makes it's way into my hands with a 40% off coupon This is going to be BIG for me. If I can make it two weeks, it will be a miracle. (It will also be some nice extra spending money for Father's Day!) Still trying to decide if I am going ot apply this to online shopping too :) lol. So, have you ever boycotted anything? How successful were you? Any tips for the rest of us? (And as for my friend Raegan who will bust at the seams laughing when she reads this post, DO NOT ENABLE me, lol)

Guest Blogger Sunday: ms cheryl: Something New...

Hey readers! I am going to be asking some of you from time to time to chime in and write a post for the blog! Sunday will be Guest Blogger Day here at 62Cards and I hope you all enjoy!! If you would like to be a guest blogger, email me at sammyejo@62cards.com and let me know! We can brainstorm topics, techniques, and more!! Have a great holiday weekend and keep in mind the reason for the holiday :). Love- Sammye Jo

Hello! Sammye Jo invited me to be a guest on her blog, my name is Cheryl Yelverton. I sign as ms.cheryl because there are several Cheryl's out there so this cuts down on the confusion.I am 52 and a single mom of a son that just had his 24th birthday yesterday and a 19 y/o daughter that is in college. I am mom to a fat white cat called IRS (IRIS). She was born on April 15th(tax day) about 11 years ago. I am grand mom to a 2 year old gray cat that could not go to college. She keeps me on my toes. I live in the country and I love to watch birds and butterflies. I have a small pond out my back door and I could sit forever and watch the koi and listen to the water except the mosquitoes would devour me if I stayed too long. I had a knee replacement in January and will return to work in July. I am a cardiac intensive care nurse at a major medical center here in Shreveport. I have worked there 25 years. I tell people "I mend broken hearts" when they ask me what I do.

I have recently become very interested in cardboard art. It started with seeing some art by Donna Salazar with Prima and developed into a new love for me. When I first started painting on cardboard I got a little over zealous and my cardboard warped. Most of my lessons in crafting have been the "trial and error" method and it was certainly that way with cardboard.

Lessons I've learned with cardboard:

* Less is more when it comes to wet substances like paint or mists.

* Let each layer dry before adding the next. I haven't tried a heat blower.

* Ripping the top layer of paper off is really therapeutic but can be messy. Don't rip it all off. It adds more interest to see some of the corrugations and some of the flat surface.

* If it tries to warp let it dry completely then spritz water lightly on the back and place it on a flat surface with a heavy book on it til it dries. You can use a phone book or dictionary.

* Be sure to finish the back as well so it looks complete. I paint about 1 inch inward all the way around and let dry. I usually write a sentiment on a 12x12 piece of matching cardstock (match the paint) and adhere it to the back overlapping the painted edge.

It's a nice finishing touch.I hope this might inspire you to play with cardboard. You could use it as a stand alone art piece or as a front/back to a mini album. Think about it before you throw away that next box or box insert. It's a way to recycle and reuse. We must consider trying to cut back on waste.

Happy crafting, ms.cheryl

Great times, people, causes, and FUN!

Happy Sunday!!!! The crop yesterday was so much fun! If you live in the Louisville or surrounding area, you really shoild join us next year! Good people, GREAT cause, and a lot of fun! What more could a girl ask for???/ So highlights- Met an adorable little boy named Travis who is involved with the OWL organization we raised money for. He was such a wonderful spirit and of course won bonus points for telling me I was Beautiful :) (Who wouldn't melt when a 13 year old tells you that???? :), Got to hang out with my sister who came up for it. She scrapped her very first OFFICIAL scrapbook :) She is like me, we made "scrap" books for years, fun never with the right tools and items (you know, acid and lignin free, with a design in mind, basically without Elmer's. Crayola, and Construction paper :) Now, I have got her all set up and she completed 11 pages and is hooked! She had me cut her out some more die cuts with my Cricut Exp before she left this morning :), got to see some great friends :) and made some new ones! Like Mollie of The Jelly Bean Joint, another etsy store! More on her and her store to come later, LIKE A GIVEAWAY! :)
So, busy but wonderful weekend! Matthew, Dana, and I watched a movie last night, ate some pizza and then bedtime as all 3 of us crashed. I forgot to tell the hubby goodnight! (He is still asleep, so he must have been up a while!)
So, my question for you: What are or what is a favorite blog(s) of yours? I love adding nwe ones to my roll! So, SHARE :) for us all to read!!! (I am making a list of some new ones for you later today!

Container Gardening!

So this post isn't reallya crafty one, but being a country girl living in a city with neighbors so close I sometimes freak out, I HATE the fact I cannot have a garden. (I can only see the faces of the Homeowners Association Board Members.) The neighborhood I live in is a newer area and my husband and I bring the average age of owners here down about 25 -35 years :) Matthew is the token child in the subdivision. We decided here though b/c of location, no outside maintainence on our part (HOA fees take care of landscaping, exterior insirance, mowing, etc), safety, quietness, etc. Still, NO farm though. :) All my life we have had 10-20 acre gardens. My grandparents, Mema and Pepa, the gpa who passed away last week, have gardened for a living for their entire lives with 30-40 acres of produce a year. So, buying veggies and produce at the store was a whole new world for me when I moved away from home! Used to, if I want cherries, I picked them off the tree, wanted strawberries, grabbed an old ice cream bucket and hit the patch, pulled a couple of ears of corn for dinner, and with 3 acres of bell peppers next to my house, stirfry was an easy fix. Not so much in the East End of Louisville, lol. So this year I decided to contianer garden on my back patio. My aunt has her own line of Herbs, Jams, Jellies, and Breads and she grows a lot of things in containers (But she hsa a full garden). A few weeks back I planted, strawberries, broccoli, 4 kinds of peppers, and green beans on my patio. They have taken off and I am SO excited. Makes me feel a little closer to my mom and dad. I never got to tell Pepa, but he would have been so proud!!! Mathew and I enjoyed a fresh red strawberry the other day and watching the changes day by day are nuts! I will have to stake my greenbeans soon! They are already out of control! So, do you garden? If so what is your favorite thing to grow?

Listing some great new things in My Etsy Store today: Amy Butler journaling spots, calendars, and tags :) I am doing a shipping special right now too. $2 flat rate U.S./$3 flat rate internatioanl. NEW CRAFT SPACE!!!!

Okay I am back. Wake and funeral over. Life to resume. Enough. This is my happy place. THANK YOU to all of you who have sent your well wishes and blessings of healing our way. We really appreciate EVERY one of them. So, I wanted to come back to this with a happy thing for me. I FINALLY have redone my craft room! Well, the set up before- paper crafting in the corner of the bedroom, fabric on all the shelves in my laundry room, cricut expression on the kitchen counter, and sewing machine on the dining room table. Ummmm YEAH. Looked like a mini sweat shop in this house! About 6 months ago my husband mentioned me turning the guest room into my room. ( Not for sleeping, for crafting, lol) I finally said yes. I love having a designated guest room, but the only people that come stay are my parents, my sister, and my cousins. When they come, Matthew sleeps with them anyways! So, moved the queen sized bed from the guest room into Matthew's room and I moved an unused twin bed from his room to the "craft" room. I meant to take pics before starting, but forgot, so The one picture is after I had already unloaded the stuff into the room.
The room is really large and has 2 closets. I lost sleep over deciding where things should go, how I wanted it to look, etc (Ever just had to MAKE yourself quit thinking about something???) So, I played around and finally decided How I wanted it to be! I am a very cheery happy-go-lucky kind of girl. I love Gerber daisies, lime green, and pink, modern, clean lines, a place for everything, etc. So, I wanted this room in my house to just scream ME!!!!!! when I walked in. (If I decorated my house in lime green ad pink with Gerber daisy accents, my husband may decide to live in the garage. He is a minimalist, liking dark colors, and bare walls, except for a gigantic tv, another story, another time. I finally got him to hang picture in his "man cave" after a year and a half. UGH!) So, after being reminded that she hadn't seen the results of my redo, a close and very dear friend of mine, Raegan, I finally cleaned up enough to take some pictures! (BTW- Raegan is a crazy awesome scrapper and is such an inspiration to me! I called her to ask her opinion on scrap storage solutions and more before I started! Thanks Rae!!!) So, without further ado, here are the results. Hope you enjoy the pics!

My redo was relatively inexpensive. The 4 large white shelves on the walls were in my room at my parents. I jacked them :) I also had the desktop there too. The cubes were a steal from Target. The paint cans Archivers, but I later found them cheaper at Michael's. Card table and chairs for Cricut, already had, wedding gift. paper lanterns from Pier 1- I asked the manager for a discount for buying the open ones they had used for a display- she gave me 40% off :), daisies, vases, Pier 1, Sewing table- Target, Fishbowls for ribbon and trims- Lakeside Collection, $9.99 (2 years ago! I have just waiting for somewhere to use them!) Bulletin board- I already had, just recovered with fabric, etc. One closet has fabric, one all my Etsy Shop items and extra items.

All in all I am really pleased so far. Still have to get the throw pillows made for the bed, new curtains, and seat cushions in matching fabric for the chairs! Thanks for "listening"!!!
