More pics than pretties!

Happy Sunday everyone. I am fighting a major headache since last night. When my little guy woke up this morning he asked for a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast. Those who know me know that this is NEVER an option. Well, this morning, it was. This option meant no fighting, a happy kiddo, and mom a chance to close her eyes while laying down on the coauch while the cookie monster enjoyed his "breakfast". I think I stunned him when I said yes. He repeated himself 3 time to make sure I was hearing him correctly, lol. Needless to say, we didn't make it to church as the thought of moving made me sick at my stomach. So, anyways- I made this layout yesterday. The challenge was to make a layout inspired by Stampin Up's Idea Book Layout over at Scrapmaster's Paradise. Here is the Idea Book LO:
So, that is my take on it. Very simple. No frills. But sometimes, you jst want to showcase several pictures. I am thrilled to actually have a LO for one of my albums that has more pictures than embellisments :) Paper is Bazzill (The yellow, green, and orange were part of a $1.99 Bazzill pack at Archivers, so handy to have around.) Stamps by Stampendous, TomBow Adhesive, Fiskars Corner rounder, EK Success Border Punch. SU Choc. Chip Writer, & Reflectiosn Brad. Thanks for looking! (Oh- Guest Blogger Sunday is posting later. Ms. Cheryl was having some trouble with the layout on her post, so come back later too!) Don't forget to check out yesterday's Saturday Spotlight! Comment for a chance to win a free item from her shop!!

Saturday Spotlight- Charmed Ceramics

Saturday Spotlight time! Here I feature artists and their work! I encourage you to check out their shops, and as always, a special treat is in it for you at the end! Show support & love! You guys are the best at it!!! (If you would like to be featured, simply send me an email at sammyejo@62cards.com and we will get you scheduled! Happy spotlight day!
Saturday Spotlight: Amber at CharmedCeramics
Where are you from: I was born and raised in Idaho, but have been a Utah girl for the past 15 years. I currently live in beautiful Highland, Utah, about 20 minutes south of Salt Lake City).
What do you specialize in: Clay has been my obsession for the past five years or so. It all started with a pottery class offered by UVSC community education. This may sound strange, but I would lay awake at night thinking about clay and all the possibilities. In short, I found my passion.
Name and URL of store: I have two stores on etsy, one for my ceramic pendants (my most recent addition) and one for my pottery: http://www.charmedceramics.etsy.com/ & http://www.clayhaven.etsy.com/ Blog address: http://clayhaven-amber.blogspot.com/
Where did the name come from: I originally wanted to do a little play on words and call the name of my store "Charmed," but that was taken, so I eventually came up with "CharmedCeramics."
How did you get started on etsy: I found etsy by doing a google search on pottery. I knew I wanted to some how do my own online store, but the whole idea of creating and running a website seemed overwhelming to me. When I found etsy, everything seemed to click into place. It was so easy, I eventually did two stores. I've had my pottery store since January, and my ceramic jewelry store since the end of May.
Advice for etsy sellers: Most of my experience on etsy has come from my pottery store. Probably the most important things I have learned are to take good pictures (I watched a few tutorials that helped me immensely), to try and list something every day, and to network with other sellers on etsy. I am currently a member of the etsy mud team. By following and participating in their thread and events I have learned many invaluable lessons. Thanks etsy mud team! What do I want customers to know about me and my product: I love what I do and want to share this love with others. Each ceramic piece is handmade with love and care. My goal is to bring a bit of joy to your life.
Shameless addictions: Obviously, clay is my main addiction, but I also love, love, love dark bittersweet chocolate. There is actually a clay called black mountain that looks like dark chocolate fudge, and I have to fight the temptation to take a little nibble ;)

Entry to SPCC Color Combo #3, Pile It On Challenge, & Charisma Cardz

Anyone who knows me or the way I scrap knows that I am not a challenge kinda girl. I spent 4 1/2 years in college and in a sorority meeting deadlines and in running my own business, I set my own dealines now! However, I decide to give up my old ways and I am proud to say that for the first 3 challenges at SPCC, I have entered :) HUGE for me! So here is Color Combo #3. I wish you could see the details a littl ebetter. The letters have been hand dotted with SU Choc. Chip Marker and then covered with Glossy Accent. I also covered the brown polka dots with the GA. Paper is a mix of SU and Bazzill. Letters cut from Cuttin' Up Cricut Cartridge. SU dimensionals and adhesive. Stamp Set is one of my FAV's-SU's Wild About you, which is retiring and it makes me sad! I placed the photos "Up and Down" to portray my theme and turned my cute little stamps into carousel characters themselves. When we go t the zoo, we always have to ride! Lately, he wants me riding with him :) I also submitted this to Pile It On and Charisma Cardz this week too :)

The Cuttlebug Spot & Die Cut Dreams Challenge

Summer reminds me of fresh flowers, bumble bees, bright colors, and sunshine! So, I made these cute summer tags for a challenge over at The Cuttlebug Spot ans for Die Cut Dreams!! Did I mention I love daisies too??? :)

Saturday Spotlight- POKKETA

Saturday Spotlight time! Here I feature artists and their work! I encourage you to check out their shops, and as always, a special treat is in it for you at the end! Show support & love! You guys are the best at it!!! (If you would like to be featured, simply send me an email at sammyejo@62cards.com and we will get you scheduled! Happy spotlight day!
Saturaday Spotlight: K from POKKETA
Name: just K!-
Where are you from?: I have lived in NYC for the past 12+ years, but am originally from the Midwest. I moved here for a career in Fashion Design.
What do you soecialize in?:-I specialize in unique zip bags that are made from exclusive designer fabrics.

Website: -URL = www.pokketa.etsy.com
Where did your name come from? - -POKKETA (pronounced POCKET-ah)came into my head one day thinking about the word "pocket"; something you put stuff in. POKKETAs are more chic, more fabulous, and better than just pockets!
How did you get started on Etsy?: -I have been a buyer on Etsy for quite a while. Being a designer/artist/crafty person myself, I really appreciate the work that goes into handmade things, and love supporting other artists and designers. My "day job" is that of a womenswear designer at a company in the heart of New York City's Garment District. Twice a year, the finest textile mills from all over the world send me fabric samples to consider for the collections I design for. Whatever doesn't get selected, usually goes in the trash! I just couldn't bare to toss some of these beautiful pieces of expensive fabric (so not "green"!), so I began collecting them. I kept trying to come up with something I could do with them. Then it hit me one day, they were the perfect size for great zip bags! So, I made a pattern, sewed a proto, and was thrilled! POKKETA was born. This is a fun "side project" for me.
An Etsy advice?: -Being a "newbie", I don't really have much "advice", except that you should absolutely love what you are doing, and have fun with it. Express yourself, and be true to that.
What do you want your customers to know about you and your product? -POKKETAs are made from exclusive designer fabric samples that come from the best textile mills all over the world. Most of these fabrics, you will never see in the US market. Each POKKETA is expertly sewn by me, and each one is a ONE OF A KIND. I even put a special pull on each zipper. Take it from a NYC designer, the difference is in the details!
Any Shameless Addictions :)? Mine include: "retail therapy", fabric stores (I LOVE Mood Fabrics), art supply stores, SHOES, avant garde clothing & jewelry, Jacques Torres chocolate, MUSIC, trashy reality TV, ETSY, my boyfriend's fabulous cooking!
Anything else you want us to know? :): -As a kid growing up in the Midwest, I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer at a very early age, and started sewing doll clothes on my mom's Kenmore at age 10. This means I have been sewing for 25 years now (yikes!) It's definitely been my "calling" in life, and I really do enjoy it. I am especially interested in couture sewing, and have made everything from hand-tailored men's suits to a wedding gown. I also enjoy sketching and illustrating.

No power...

I have been without power today for 12 hours and I was about to go nuts!!!!!! granted I went 10 days in September for the wind storm and 7 days in January for the ice storm, but we up and went to homes of our family. Today, it came a HORRIBLE thunderstorm or three and then it was beautiful outside and here we are without power. We couldn't play outside b/c the ground was sooooo wet. SO- I played with the little guy until Igot him to nap and then I worked on unmounting my wooden stamps to make them cling stamps! I love using clear adn cling stamps, so my SU stamps were begging to be unmounted. I have so much space where those boxes were now!!! ANyone insterested in info on how to do this? Leave a comment and if so, I will do a step by step on unmounting stamps! Now- I have to go read all your comments!!!! I feel sooo behind!

Scrap the Boys!

Another note for today! Spent yesterday morning at Dora the Expolorer LIVE, (read: 2400 kiddos/people all singing backpackbackpack & We did it! We did it!) Matthew LOVED it though and Diego made an appearance, so he was pumped! I needed to work on some orders last night but, I wanted to scrap for a few, so after dinner I headed downstairs and knocked out these 2 layouts!
This one was for a June Challenge over at Scrap the Boys! Check the site out! It is great! Challenges, and gret ideas for those with boys!!!!Did I mentioned I applied for their Design Team :) Wish me luck! If there is one thing I know it's paper and boys :)
For this layout I used Bazzill Cardstock, Bazzill Swiss Dot, Alphabeans from Jillibean Soup, Letters from The Jellybean Joint, Stickles, Stampin Up Dimensionals, TomBow adhesive. Other: Patch, Twill tape, clear layover. The challenge was to use Black, Red, and ONE other color. The picture needed to be a of your boy and his toy :)

Then I did this one! Mom and Matthew making Oreo Balls! YUM! Paper is from DCWV Nan's Kitchen, Embellishments where made by cutting out one of the pages that is also in the DCWV paper pad. Stampin Up Kiwi Kiss & Dimensionals, Stickles, Chit Chatter Chipboard, K&Co Journaling Spot.

The Great American Scrapbook Convention

I had soooooo much fun! Wish you had been there with me. This was my third year to attend and there will be more. This is the only convention I have attended so I don't have anything to compare it to but I can say it is well thought out and organized. Over the three years I have been I have seen improvements made each year. I don't know how they can improve on it after this year.
I took six classes and volunteered in three. Of all the classes my favorite was a banner made from double layered and stitched canvas. I will definitely use canvas again. We learned to use a roller doodle, make a grungy flower from paper strips and decorate the top cording with buttons and handmade charms from rub ons. It was a 1 1/2 hour class but could have easily used another 30 min. I will post a picture when I finish the details on mine. The buttons in the class kit were gold and I am a silver girl so I will trade them out. The rub ons were numbers in circles and I wanted a punch that was the right size to punch the circles out rather than cut them out with scissors. My punch was too large so that was all the excuse I needed to buy a smaller punch. LOL. I love Creative Memories punches so that is what I bought. It goes with the ones I already have. **** TIP**** I store my punches in an over-the-door shoe organizer. It keeps them all together and close at hand.**** I think this banner would be great as a chair decoration for the birthday person in your life or mother/father's day or other celebration. You could dress up the canvas any way you like. It could even be interchangable if you added velcro dots to the canvas instead of adhesive. I'm now on the hunt for some pretty vintage buttons. I started looking on etsy last night. Do any of you have places you like to shop for vintage buttons? Please leave me a link in your comments if you do.
Next week I'll tell you about the scrapping celebrities I met. I'll give you a clue... one is into pastels and the other is into literature. Can you guess??? I love to read your comments so please feel free to speak up. I also want to thank you for your thoughts and prayers during my family's recent loss. I hope you each have a BLESSED week. ms.cheryl

Show support & love! You guys are the best at it!!! (If you would like to be featured, simply send me an email at sammyejo@62cards.com and we will get you scheduled! Happy spotlight day!
Saturday Spotlight Featured Artist: Eleanor from Wellamina!
Name: Eleanor Prado

Where are you from?: I was born in Chicago, Illinois I lived there most of my life. Now I live in South Carolina.

What do specialize in: I always loved to sew, So that why I got into making things, like my purse size tissue holders. But I don't stop their. I also make things with buttons. From ponytail holders to jewelry.

Name & URL of store: Wellamina - http://www.wellamina.etsy.com/ and http://www.thebuttonboutique.etsy.com/

Where did the name come from: Wellamina is a little bit of me and a little of my daughter, Wellamina is 12. Not an adult, but not a child. She's just trying figure out who she is, a young girl with alot of talent and thats ok.

How did you get started on etsy?: Surfing on the internet one day. My husband said you should try it. and I did, and I never looked backed.

Any advice for new etsy sellers that you have learned?: First you need to give 100% love in what you do. Believe in yourself, Try! I learned though my mistakes, do reseach on prices, packaging, and taking great photos is the most important thing. Remember your customers can't pick it up to look at it, so they count on you to give them the best pictures and description.

What do you want customers to know about you and/or your product: The most important thing that I learned about myself is that all things are possible. Even with being a paraplegic. Me, having MS has changed my life, and I learned that if you really want to do something, than go for it. The only person thats stoping you is you yourself. One day I started to make some dress My husband said they look great, Wait, how are you sewing. I looked at him and said " I put the foot petal on the table and use my right hand to push it. Right than I knew I can do this "cool" I like my items to be perfect, What you see is what you get.

Entry to SPCC Color Challenge

Well, Sunday is my Daddy's (Yes, spoken like a true Southern Girl, Daddy! AT least it's not Big Daddy like Blanche!) (Do you know who I am talking about? :)

So, I was needing to get my entry into this week's SPCC Color Challenge, so I decided to scrap my Daddy. I wish I could tell you how much of a Daddy's girl I am. I wake up worrying about him and go to bed worrying about him. I just love him so much! In the past 3 1/2 years he has had a rough go of it! First, my brother, the only boy and the one taking over the family farms was killed, the FIRST time I have ever seen my daddy cry. Then in January his farming partner for 37 years, his uncle, passed away totally unexpected. Then just a couple weeks ago, we lost my Pepa- his dad. So, now dad has not only all the farms to take care of, but he still takes it one day at a time. He loves us with everything he has and gives everything he can to the land. A farmer is one of the hardest jobs in the world. The dairy cows don't let you call in sick or take a vacation day. You can't operate while being away- no conference calls, emails to delay, or rainchecks. You live for the land and you are always on GOD's schedule. If it rains, snows, ices, the electric goes out, doesn't matter. There is still work to be done. It is that work ethic he has drilled into my sister, brother, and I and it is what he IS. Love you so much Daddy! Happy 51st birthday. You amaze me! (Why am I telling him this here, computers are not his thing unless they are on a switchboard in a tractor or combine :)

Journaling Sprouts!

Just wanted to share. I have become a big fan of a new line called Jillibena Soup. I think what I love the most is that it is printed on recycled paper and they seem to love kraft as much as I! Well, over on their blog, they are hosting a contest for getting creative with their Jourmaling Sprouts.
Well, I had made this for Matthew one day and have decided to enter it! It's a match game!
I used the sprouts to decorate the board and as the cards. I attached sprouts behind doors with removable tape and I can change out the sets of matching items so the game doesn't get boring. I have a set of sprouts with letters, with colors, with items, etc. I store them in an envelope on the back of the board! They are the perfect size!

Who said sprouts had to be JUST for scrapbooking! I also used Jillibean Soup Bean Sprout Ribbon and Alpha Bean letters! So good luck to me and Matthew's Match Game!!! :)

LaTiDaaahhhhh!

Good day all! Don't forget your entries into the Recycle & ReUse Challenge!
Don't forget to enter for the FREE journaling tags HERE!

SWEEEETTTT!!!!

Don't forget- Become a follower of my blog by clicking hte button on the sidebar and you are eligible for a great new giveaway of goodies! I will pick the winner on Sunday!
So, I came up with this idea the other day adn today, I put it into work! Because I make a TON of cupcake toppers- I wanted a way to show how they look in cupcakes without having to make cupcakes and make an extra set to use in pictures. (That's a lot of time and money just for pictures!) SO- I finally figured out a way! Here it is:

They look so real don't they!!! Really though they are a small gift box in the shape of a cupcake! I found them on clearance at Michael's for 47 cents!!! I pulled the cherry that was on top out and poked a set of my toppers into the center (The tops are decorated foam) and WAH LAH:

Now I have a great way that I can show how EACH set I sell look inside of cupcakes without having to make a set to waste for a picture!!!!

I bought the stand at Michael's a few weeks ago to use for my sister's birthday. It was $10, but I used my 40% off coupon. So, $6 for the stand and $6.50 in fake cupcakes and I have a great display! I think I may actually buy another set of stand/cupcakes to use in one of the boutiques that carries my some of my line here in Louisville. (Oh, FYI- the Michael's coupon this week is for 50% off an item!- Check this post to see where you can print one off!)

Have a sweet day!

Hello Kitty! & Submission for Creative Inspirations

Submitted this to Creative Inspirations! Check them out!

Just finished a custom order last night for a super nice lady. Her daughter, Ashleigh, is turning 2 and she ordered a custom Mini Birthday Album from me and matching Cupcake toppers. It was a lot of fun! Not very often do I get to do super cute girly stuff around here! I added 2 extra pages for her since I was on a roll using pinks and greens! She has pages for welcome notes from party goers, picture pages for her and her siblings, gifts pages for pictures or notes of cool things she got, a yummy page for her cupcake pics and blowing our her candles, and more :) Gotta love Hello Kitty! I think I am going to making a listing for custom mini albums in my shop. These are chipboard covered pages that I have punched to add the rings. I love using cute ribbon to decorate the edges! This albums measures approx. 6x6 :)

Back to my beginnings :)

When I started my store, I was focused on the creation of cards, hence the name :) Now, as we all do in this field, I have grown into other areas. Crazy, but I create more cupcake toppers and matching mini albums than anything these days. I also do more "supplies" than I thought I would. BUT, since my 1 year anniversary on Etsy is coming up, I thought I would head BTTB. Back to the Basics. I forgot how much I enjoyed making cards! (I have forgotten how to scrapbook my own things as well :) So, I pulled out some adorable stamps I had bought a while back- OH on a side note, went to Michael's yesterday & bought a few things, streak is over, and NO I didn't give up online shopping during the streak. Progress over perfection, right??? :) Anyways, back to cute stamps I I somehow forgot I had as they sat unopened in a plastic container hadn't gotten around to using. Take those, paired with some cute paper, a nifty saying, and some great watercoloring fun and WAH LAH! Hope everyone has a great Saturday. OHH- Head over tohttp://brixtonlife.blogspot.com/ and check out a cute giveaway! Good luck!
